چکیده
Stimulation period Fig.1 A representative 7T proton spectrum from a single subject:(A) averaged spectrum acquired at rest; (B) averaged spectrum acquired during stimulation; (C) difference between (A) and (B). The peaks seen at 2.01, 2.10, 2.35 and 3.03ppm in the difference spectrum are attributed to linewidth changes due to the BOLD effect as well as concentration changes of metabolites. (D) same as (C), but the spectrum acquired during stimulation was linebroadened by 0.6Hz to match the linewidth of the spectrum acquired at rest, in order order to eliminate the linewidth changes due to BOLD effect. Glutamate peaks at 2.10 and 2.35ppm survive this procedure. Inset: An example acquired BOLD response. The voxel position is indicated by a white square. Repeatability of Detecting Visual Cortex Activity in Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction As functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is too expensive and time consuming, its frequent implementation is difficult. The aim of this study is to evaluate repeatability of detecting visual cortex activity in fMRI. Materials and Methods In this study, 15 normal volunteers (10 female, 5 male; Mean age±SD: 24.7±3.8 years) attended. Functional magnetic resonance images were ob...
متن کاملApplication of magnetic resonance spectroscopy for evaluating metabolic alteration in anterior cingulate cortex in Alzheimer's disease
Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is often the prodromal stage to AD. Most patients with MCI harbor the pathologic changes of AD and demonstrate transition to AD at a rate of 10–15% per year. Accumulating evidence indicates that the asymmetry changes of left and right brain have happened in the early stage of A...
متن کاملInvestigating the metabolic changes due to visual stimulation using functional proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 7 T.
Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) has been used to demonstrate metabolic changes in the visual cortex on visual stimulation. Small (2% to 11%) but significant stimulation induced increases in lactate, glutamate, and glutathione were observed along with decreases in aspartate, glutamine, and glycine, using (1)H-MRS at 7 T during single and repeated visual stimulation. In addition...

►Figure 2: Summed H spectrum acquired during stimulation (A) and rest (B) periods (n=5, NT=56) were subtracted to yield the difference spectrum (C). An additional line broadening (*) of 0.35Hz was applied to the activated spectrum to correct for the BOLD effect on metabolite linewidth (D). Inset: Location of the VOI (17*20*17mm, red square) in the motor cortex. 3596 Metabolite concentration cha...
متن کاملStudy of tricarboxylic acid cycle flux changes in human visual cortex during hemifield visual stimulation using (1)H-[(13)C] MRS and fMRI.
The relationships between brain activity and accompanying hemodynamic and metabolic alterations, particularly between the cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen utilization (CMR(O2)) and cerebral blood flow (CBF), are not thoroughly established. CMR(O2) is closely coupled to the rate of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle flux. In this study, the changes in glutamate labeling during (13)C labeled glucose...
